Many people get caught up in the process of configuring ogame. They quickly realize that getting started is not as easy as they thought it would be and instead of moving forward, they find themselves lazily hovering around ogame’s settings clicking through options for days on end. As you continue to configure ogame, it’s possible that you may inadvertently block yourself from using a newly-configured option and even worse, you might lose progress altogether! The goal of this blog post is to outline the steps needed to avoid these common pitfalls while setting up your new game. This guide is intended for anyone who is new to Ogame and has no clue where to begin. We will begin by creating a new account and then we will configure our settings file. Once your settings file is configured, we will setup the Ogame browser. If you’re already using the Ogame browser, this section can be skipped as it’s not required to do anything that we are going to do in this post. Step 1: Create a New Account Click here for step-by-step instructions on creating a new account and skipping directly to OpenOgame’s home page. Next, you want to login with your newly created username and password. Once you have logged in, you should have a screen similar to the one below: Once you have successfully logged in, you will be prompted to create a configuration file, which is a key-value database of setting values organized by categories. There are two different types of configuration files for those who wish to maintain separate section settings now. We’ll start with the default config file type that can be created from the Settings tab under Tools > Options > Ogame Options: The default Ogame configuration file allows you to set up defaults for all your games and also stores your various personal preferences. You can also use this file as your personal reference if you wish to review your custom configurations after a specific change. The alternative configuration files takes on a more personalized approach. You can add custom keys to your settings file and then choose to load them only while you are running a specific client. Once you have created a new set of settings, you can select which config file you would like to use from the Protocols tab under the Options section: Click on the Ogame Protocols tab and then click New. Enter your details in the User ID/Password field and once it has been successfully typed in, click Save. We are now ready enter our first key value pair. Enter “Quality” as the Key value name and type “0” for Quality. Now that we have entered our first key value pair, we can click on the Save Key Values button. You should then be returned to the main Ogame page. The key value pair you entered will now appear in both the Settings tab under Tools > Options > Ogame Options and also in your current set of settings under the Protocols tab.
